Customize Service Manager Portal 2012

I was looking for customizing the Service Manager Portal. It’s a shame it is still not supported on Sharepoint 2013 and I was looking to modernize a bit the look and feel from the Service Manager Portal. First I was able to configure the portal look and feel with the Sharepoint Designer 2010. I open the site and went to Master Pages and selected the SMPortalPage.master.

After I choose the edit file in the Customazation section:

When the master page is loaded I added the style sheet column by going to Style and choose the Manage Styles button. After selected the style column will be placed on the right side of Sharepoint Designer:

There I choose to select only show the style sheets on current page (in our case it is the SMPortal master page):

From there you need to play around with the text boxes and colors from the links and so on until it fits your needs. This is done by going over all the bullits to see in a preview pane below what style is applied to that reference. By playing around with text colors and background colors you will quickly find out what result is affecting your portal. To apply the settings you need to save the Style sheet. This is opened in a new tab. Right click and choose save:

After I finalized the styling and went to the portal I was still disappointed that the background from the Silverlight part was not changed according the style sheets.
I looked around and found out you need to edit the webpart and choose the background in the webpart. CAUTION: You need to do this also for your service offering page, service request page and other pages where you have the Silverlight plugin enabled.

So go to your SMPortal, On the ribbon choose edit page. then on the right top corner you can select the webpart and choose edit:

In box “Background Color”add the color you want the background to be. In my case I used white.

And my results are as below:
